Launching June 15: CohousingMap.net

Tweeting that it is launching tomorrow, June 15. The placeholder page doesn't explain much ... it looks like maybe an interactive map. Also billing itself as "the first cohousing social network". So I'm guessing an app-based site?

There isn't much information on the website or Twitter account: cohousingmap

So I guess we'll just have to wait and see ...

Carles (cohousingmap) can you tell us a little more about how you expect people to use the site?

I have registered as a partner, but I'm not sure when I sign in if I need to select the Partner button each time? There may need to be clear text instructions on the home page on how to login.

How does one go about registering a location?

Can I register as both a user and a sponsor? Or would I have access to all the information as either one?

Hi Mary.

You can register as a user (if looking a cohousing ), as a community (if you have already an ongoing project ) and as a partner company ( if you offer services on this).

The display content is similar in the three roles, but different interaction possibilities.

It is explained in detail in the three sections : users information, communities information and partners information.

If you have more than one role you can register with both. For example, as a personal user and as a community if you have a project going.

The sense of this double resgistro is to report your availability as a person for joining a community and also report on your project.

At login access you must always indicate the type of user, along with the username and password .

Thank you, Carles. I have now registered as both a user and a partner. When I went to register my community, I hesitated because ... I want to list it, even though we are not currently taking new residents. There doesn't seem to be an ability to toggle the community as open or closed at this time. Will that capability be added? Maybe different colors markers? We would be open to doing tours, but I don't want to be flooded with inquiries about housing at this time.

New problem. I was actually NOT able to register as a new user, even with a different email address. The software accepts my form (although it keeps randomly switching between English and Spanish) but does not log me in automatically, nor will it accept the login credentials I gave. I will try again later using Chrome instead of Firefox. Also, the photo upload in registration does not work (in Firefox).

In other news, I announced the launch of CohousingMap.net over on cohousing.org, and there is a lengthy conversation here: lists.cohousing.org/archives/cohousing-l/threads.html

Although much of it seems to center on criticisms of new initiatives like this one because the creator will never get rich from them. (I know, the logic escapes me too.)

It does warn that gmail might be a problem, so you might want to try a non-gmail address if you have one. Once you are on the list (it took me several tries), you have to open each response separately, and then to respond, you must send an email to the list manager. Be VERY CAREFUL to change the subject title appropriately, that took me a while to learn, too.

Mary, I think the cohousingmap is a great idea! But, I have having problems registering. I can't quite figure it out. Do we have to already be a cohousing to register? Because it keeps asking about the property, and the value, and all that. We don't have that information yet. Can't I just register as someone interested in cohousing?

Oh right. I remember now. I think my wife registered a long time ago, but it got to be too much trouble or something.

Jasmina, I will let Carles answer your last question, as I don't know the answer yet.

The site just launched this week, and is spank-a-baby new, so I'm sure there will be some things to be worked out yet. Stay tuned and if I can figure it out myself, I'll be happy to help.

Communities are not displayed as open or closed literally.
It would be pointless a closed (private ) community on a site thought to share.
What I can state is the state of the community (forming community, looking for land , construction , in operation) .
Mary... the problem with your user registration is not activated.
You should have received a welcome email with a link to activate the profile.
Mary In your case , I see that the mail is wrong and why it has not come to you .
I'll give a look to the forum you mention .

The information about the property is optional and refers to the user's own home , not the community project .
Registration as a user is intended for people interested in Cohousing .

In any case we will evaluate simplifying the questionnaire to avoid such concerns .
