Durrett desperately wants to get some sort of tiny house project established to help homeless people here in his Nevada County. It’s the county, though, he feels is his biggest roadblock here.
“The bigger issue is Nevada County,” Durrett said. “They’ve done a lot for vets, but something as simple as leasing the property, it couldn’t be easier for them, and all it requires is a little heart.”
The property in question for Durrett, in which he already has plans drawn up for, is a 20-acre parcel of unused property owned by Nevada County along Highway 49 near the new Juvenile Hall, where he has proposed 30-40 tiny houses.
“Prop 63 can get funding for the homeless in the county, but they’re not interested,” Durrett said. “Their take is if we address it we will get more, that is a pretty pathetic take on leadership.”
