I'm involved in an exciting project, and I thought y'all might like to have a glimpse at this project as it proceeds.
Red Wing Ranch is 1,000 acres (out of over 200,000 acres) of the original Riggs Family Settlement in southern Arizona. My client John Riggs, a well-known Tucson architect with over 2,500 projects under his belt, is turning this portion of the rancho into a well-planned string of intentional communities and businesses.
Some of the home clusters will be cohousing, some will be more traditional but will be designed in such a way that they could opt to become cohousing later. The first cluster is called The Mare Pasture. More details and photos here: www.marepasture.com/Mare_Pasture/Community.html
Of the 1,000 acres set aside for this project, 75% will be dedicated to wildlife preserves and corridors. Equestrian trails lead out into the Dos Cabezos and Chiricahua Mountains, and grass fed beef will graze the mountain pastures surrounding the project. The property is at 4700' and gets 14 inches of rain per year, including periodic winter snow storms.
The ranch will include a winery, vineyard, guest lodge and luxury casitas (think Amangiri quality), equestrian center, horse rescue, and hydroponic greenhouses. Plans for The Mare Pasture include edible landscaping, community gardening, hydroponic farming, wetland preserves, footpaths and solar-powered golf cart transportation, solar-voltaic power, waste water processing through wetlands, and incorporation of protected Native American ruins.
John is designing the home clusters so that every home will face inward toward its community, and also have expansive, unobstructed views of the grasslands and mountains.
Next step: We're looking for investors for the winery and vineyard. Detailed business plans are available. So if you know anyone who wants to live in an eco-village AND be a winery investor, let us know!
