We have instituted a bike-share program where bikes will be made available to those who ride infrequently. That way people aren't keeping a bike for a once a year bike ride. And it is hoped people will bike more, because when they want a bike, they can just take one. We also have private bikes.

Welcome,henning! That is a great idea. I know our bike sheds are stuffed full of bikes that I never see people using. Where do you store/keep the bikes? Are there security issues?

We are still pre-building so at this point this is just in the plans. The plans have some limited outdoor parking, a bike compound in our underground parking, and possible elevator accessible parking as well. We will have to see how many private bikes we end up with before we decide what parking is reserved for our bike share and what is for private bikes. My feeling, as the instigator of this idea, is that we should prioritize the shared bikes and the private bikes can be a little harder to get at. We are hoping to initially stock the bike share with donated bikes and slowly upgrade the fleet to more suitable bikes over time. We even have a bicycle built for two.

Fantastic idea! I love the bike for two - it's something people would like to use once in a while, but not necessarily own.
