Mary, can you post some of the cohousing.org discussion here, so we can read some of the comments and discuss without having to jump through all the email hoops? My wife says she's not interested in doing that again, and we share the same email.

Gary, that's an interesting request, but I think it's separate from the discussion here about CohousingMap.net, so I'm going to try to move this discussion to a new thread. One moment, please.

The answer is, no. I will not copy comments that are published on the Cohousing.org L-list here, unless they are general announcements and I have the permission of the poster.

On the other hand, as in the case of the CohousingMap.net launch, I may post an announcement here, but also there as a PSA.

There are a couple of reasons that this is my policy.

One, the posters there have registered for the L-list and chosen to post their views there, and many of them are comfortable with the other posters there, they may have known each other a long time. Also, Alice Alexander, the ED of Cohousing.org, has been very supportive of this forum. She was one of the first to register, and she posted about this forum on the Cohousing.org blog. So I don't want to overstep the bounds of her hospitality by stealing content.

Two, our two memberships are already developing different personalities, I think, and I'd like to keep it that way. Cohousing.org is mainly focused only on cohousings, in the US in particular. Also, their discussions seem to regularly revolve around the logistics of forming communities (there are rich archives there, for anyone interested) and on the protocols of governance, and aging in community. Here, I'd like to see more cross-talk between international communities, and different types of communities--ecovillages, tiny house communities, spiritual communities, and so on. I'd also like to see more discussion about the fun aspects of cohousing--photos, activities, homeschooling, etc.

That being said, if someone picks up on a topic idea or discussion thread suggestion from something they've read on the Cohousing.org L-list, feel free to start a fresh thread here on the topic, and introduce it in your own words. Just please don't quote any posts from over there without the poster's permission.

Mary, I may have asked this before and if so, I apologize. As you know, my condo association is thinking of re-forming as a cohousing. Should we join the L-list as another resource? It sounds of clunky if it's all email.

Hi Jasmina, I don't recall if you have to join the list in order to read the threads. But I know you don't have to actively post in order to take advantage of the wealth of information there, provided by members over many, many years. And you can search the archives by keyword, if you are looking for something specific.
