"A recent study conducted by the University of Florida and Resource Economics Department ... found that 32 percent of those surveyed did not “believe vegetables contain DNA” and 33 percent believe that non-GM tomatoes “did not contain genes.” Like the Oklahoma State survey, it also found very strong support for labeling foods that contained DNA."

“Consumers do not know as much about the facts of genetically modified food and crops as they think they do,” said Brandon McFadden, an assistant professor at the University of Florida.

Oh good gawd. I went to the actual study summary to see how many people they polled -- 1004! And there's this:

"Of those sampled, 84 percent supported a mandatory label for food containing genetically modified ingredients. However, 80 percent also supported a mandatory label for food containing DNA, which would result in labeling almost all food."

How can we trust all these anti-GMO sentiments when they're coming from clearly uneducated people? Egads.

That's both hilariousy funny and alarming. I wonder if I would be one of those people, though. I mean, I know (a little) what DNA is, but if someone were to stop me with a clipboard and start asking questions with acronyms in them, I could easily get confused!

Jasmin, it was an online poll. I'm sure you could have figured out, but these people had all the time in the world and the power of the interwebs at their fingertips and they're still idiots.
