GMO Food Labeling in Brazil: Simple and Positive?

This article describes how Brazil uses a simple transgenic symbol for labeling foods that contain GMO's. And the response doesn't seem to very negative.

An article on the Environmental Working Group website entitled, “GMO labels don’t scare away shoppers” notes, “In Brazil, where all food containing GMOs has carried a transgenic symbol, researchers discovered that many consumers were actually more likely to buy these foods – especially if they claimed to provide a nutritional benefit.”

Not related to the question, really, but I want to ask if you're really comfortable with bringing up GMO's in a discussion forum. People get really het up on the topic.

Yes, I think so. To be transparent, I have a personal interest in the topic as I'm researching and writing a book on GMO's, but I also think the topic dovetails with cohousing in the area of social responsibility. In my experience, most people who opt to live in cohousing try to socially and environmentally aware.

Plus, our board is still very small, so I don't see any potential firestorms any time soon. And I appreciate the feedback. I like to keep my finger on the pulse of customer reactions.

And if necessary, we can always fall back on the rules I have posted on my blog. They're pretty clear.
